Our social workers never gave up on Elizabeth. After being admitted to our Babies Home at two days old, she reunited with her loving mother at one year and six months old.
This post is a follow up to the story below:
Finally, we’ve traced and reunited baby Elizabeth with her mother!
Our findings during family tracing
According to our findings, Elizabeth’s mother got pregnant in primary seven during the COVID-19 lockdown, making her now 16 years of age.
After Elizabeth was born, her great aunt convinced her mother to go back to school, leaving baby Elizabeth at home in her great aunt's care.
The aunt promised Elizabeth’s mother that she would take care of Elizabeth but instead opted to bring her to our Babies’ Home – lying to assure us that someone had abandoned the baby. She successfully got documents to back up her lies, and as a result, we admitted baby Elizabeth.
Our Social Workers in action
Our initial analysis during our tracing and interviews led us to suspect that the woman who brought Elizabeth knew her mother. This analysis is what our social workers built on, that is, until we received the clear truth upon the arrest of the aunt.
After learning the truth, through consulting and following recommendations from police and probation officers, we were able to reunite baby Elizabeth with her young mother.
Upon reunification, Elizabeth was one year and six months old after being at our CCI since she was two days old.
An Appreciation
This happy reunion couldn’t have been possible without the hard work of our Lira Babies’ Home team, who used technical skills of social work and good coordination with police and probation officers to trace and reunite Elizabeth with her mother.
